Comparision of the MCRCODE-E System with API 20E for System Identification of Enterobacteriaceae

Abstract
|
|
|
A comparative study was done between the methods utilizing MCRCODE-E system and API 20E (Analytab products, Plainview, N.Y.) system for identification of members of the family Enterobacteriaceae.
A total of 495 clinical isolates was identified by the MCRCODE-E and API 20E systems in the Microbiology Laboratory of Yeungnam University Hospital during the period through November 1, 1985 to March 31, 4,986.
As a result, the complete agreement up to species level between two methods was observed in 94.5% of the isolates and an agreement up to genus level was noted in 97. 0% of the isolates.
Considering the fact that MCRCODE-E system is simple to read, costs cheaper and presents high degree of accuracy, it appears to be an efficient and accurate system for the identification of Enterobacteriaceae in clinical microbiology laboratory in Korea.
